Comment: My apartment.

July 21, 2008 | Category: Comment | Author: Lee

My apartment looks like a bike shop. I’m sure there are some out there who’d love to be able to say that, so let me explain: I live in a moderate size 1 bedroom apartment, I have 2 cats, 3 couches (1 is a sofa bed if you ever need a place to crash), 2 widescreen TV’s & 5 bikes. As you probably know - it’s never JUST the bikes, I’ve got three helmets, countless jerseys, windproofs, showerproofs, shorts, socks, an organizer filled with shoes, tools (more than your average well equipped bike shop), spares… You get the idea.

Santa Cruz reveal updated Nomad

July 16, 2008 | Category: Bike News | Author: hamish

Santa Cruz don’t rush with their suspension designs. For example; the Superlight has been around since… umm… forever and has undergone gradual tweaks rather than complete revolutionary re-design, getting gradually better and better over time and yet still obviously being related to the bike that it was in the 90’s.

Earlier this year Santa Cruz revealed the tweaks they’d made to the Blur LT and now the Nomad gets a dose of the updates as well. Here’s the result - Stiffer, lighter, stronger and perhaps even prettier than before. The Nomad is dead. Long live the Nomad!

Still obviously a Nomad

Long Termer: Foes Racing 4X

July 11, 2008 | Category: Bike Tests: Full Suspension, Long Termers | Author: Lee

I’m going to come clean straight away and admit that I’m not a jumper. It’s not that I don’t like getting both wheels off the ground it’s just that I don’t know what to do when I get up there and it always seems to end in a tangled mess of limbs, pads and bike as my brain panics. I’ve tried ignoring its comments and warnings about going against Gravity but the brain always wins and I inevitably end up in a heap on the ground.

So you can imagine my surprise when I got the Foes 4X for a Long Termer. Me? The non-jumper? Aren’t these short travel, compact bikes all about styling up whips over 50ft doubles etc? (I may not be able to do it but I can talk a good jump at least…). Well, I was soon to find out.

Strap on a race plate & I’m ready to go!

Quick Release: New Intense bikes!

July 8, 2008 | Category: Quick Releases | Author: Lee

New for 2009 (although it’s available now) is the Tracer VP from Intense Cycles.

In a first for a VPP bike the new Tracer (the original Tracer is still one of the highest regarded trail bikes of all time) offers adjustable travel of between 5.5 and 6″ - not a huge amount of difference but with the option of running forks with up to 160mm of travel the difference the rear travel settings make to the head angle should offer plenty of adjustability for most trails.

Many of us carry some form of GPS navigation equipment on our rides. Whether it’s a dedicated GPS tracker or a tricked out mobile phone an increasing number of electronic gadgets are finding their way into our packs.

Up until now the only way we had of calling for help in the event of an emergency was a mobile phone. Obviously these can’t always be relied upon if we’re out in the middle of no-where meaning we run the risk of being isolated and in need of help but with no way of notifying anyone. Not a good position to be in.

Enter the Spot Messenger. A compact and rugged GPS tracker, communicator and emergency beacon that constantly updates your position via a network of orbiting satellites.
